Get It While You Can Tasting 6/5/15-6/6/15

Get It While You Can Tasting

Some wines come along and strike a chord with people, and before you know it, they’re gone. Others may move slowly, but become valuable when they prove to be the last of their kind. Then there’s the ones that make a Top 100 list, or get big scores. We have these, and more this week at El Cajon.

We’ll sample the fastest moving Chardonnay we ever had, a Top 100 wine, some big scoring wines, and the last production of one of Napa/Sonoma’s first Cult Wine Makers. Greg Brown started the Cult Wine craze with his T Vine wines.  Tragically, he passed away unexpectedly, leaving the 2008 vintage as his last mark.

Summer Grooves Tasting 5/29/15-5/30/15

Summer Grooves Tasting

How cold is too cold? Will the wine police show up if I put an ice cube in my glass? Why won’t the fridge hurry up and cool down that  bottle?

With chilling season on the way – you know, hangin’ by the pool, glass of vino in hand, maybe a little grill action unfolding nearby – questions do arise.

Of course, our first rule on pretty much anything to do with wine is that it’s a free country and you are welcome to do whatever works for you!

Whether it’s a laid-back time with the gang or prepping for a night out, these fantastic wines will create the perfect ambience for your summer chill.

The Treasure Island Tasting

This month we found some beauties, so we’re going to offer them all up this weekend at the El Cajon “Treasure Island” tasting.

We have an unbelievable white from the south of Burgundy to begin the treasure hunt.   The great Chardonnays of Burgundy begin in Chablis to the far north, where the traditional style is a dry, crisp, minerally wine. As one travels south, the wines generally pick up weight and richness.

We’ll follow up with a critically acclaimed Pinot Noir, two great Napa reds, and a big Toro red from Spain. “Chart a course” for El Cajon, “mateys”, and help us enjoy these treasures!

El Cajon Wine Tasting Notes 5/8/15-5/9/15

The Rising Stars Tasting

New wines and wineries seem to come along on a regular basis, and old favorites sometimes fade into obscurity, ala Merlot’s overnight change from the most popular varietal to the least popular.  Tastes change and  new wine fans come along.

This weekend we’ll sample a few of the Rising Stars in the wine world.  We’ll start with Randy Mason, who makes one of the world’s best Sauvignon Blancs in the heart of Napa Cabernet country ~ Oakville.

We’ll try one of the Monterey Pinot Noirs that are attracting huge followings, and then some of the modern European red blends that are redefining Old World styles.

We’ll end up with a Napa Cab from Oakville, the cult capital for Cabernet.

Should be a great one!
