La Jolla Wine Tasting Selections for 1/24/14-1/25/14

On Friday we will experience wines of Bordeaux.  Due to the warm climate, Bordeaux blends typically contain large percentages of Cabernet and or Merlot and then small percentages of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and/or Petit Verdot.  I have chosen one white and four red wines.  The white wine is a blend of Semillon and Sauv Blanc from Baron’s de Rothschild.  The four red wines have never been offered at the tastings and will culminate with the 2009 Malartic Lagraviere, which received 92+ Points from Robert Parker.  Tonight is a great opportunity to try some brand new wines to Jonathan’s.

On Saturday we will be trying wines from Oregon in Washington.  The finer Oregon wines are typically cool climate varietals like Chardonnay and Pinot.  They are often compared stylistically to the wines of Burgundy.I have chosen a Chardonnay from Arterberry Maresh and Domaine Serene.  We have two Pinot Noirs on the list, one from King’s Ridge and the other from Soter Winery.  In Washington warm climate varietals thrive so they tend to produce high quality Bordeaux varietals, most notably Cabernet and Merlot.  We will finish the evening with the 2006 Cote Bonneville Carriage House red.  It is from the highly acclaimed Dubrul Vineyard and received 93 Points from Wine Spectator.

See you tonight or tomorrow!

Friday’s Selections: $20.00 per person

Featuring “The wines of Bordeaux”

2011 Arteberry Maresh Chardonnay ($34.99)

  • “Bottled after 20 months of long but passive lees contact, the Arterberry-Maresh is alluringly and stimulatingly scented with fresh lime, tangerine, iris and ginseng.  There are lovely clarity, buoyancy, and salvia-inducing salinity here such as one misses in Chardonnay from anywhere outside of Chablis. All I know for sure is that from analogy with the corresponding 2009, I’m pretty confident that this long-finishing 2011 will reward through at least 2016.” DS-  Wine Advocate 92 Points!

2011 Domaine Evenstad Chardonnay ($54.99)

  • 2011 Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve tasted alongside proved highly promising. Apple and candied lime zest inform the nose and polished, palpably lees-enriched yet simultaneously bright and juicy palate. Somehow, these aspects – as well as hints of caramel from barrel toast – are better-integrated than in the corresponding 2010, and there are clarity and lift as well as sheer length that point toward delightful performance over at least the next several years.

2011 King’s Ridge Pinot Noir ($19.99)

  • Wineries throughout the Willamette Valley turn out vintage after vintage of splendid pinot noir, many in styles reminiscent of their French cousins. Among them is Union Wine Company.  In addition to pinot noir, the winery focuses on Pinot Gris and Riesling. This wine introduces itself with aromas of raspberry, mocha and a bit of cedar. Layered in red fruit and spice, the well-structured wine moves from light and smooth to nicely tart on the finish. It’s distinctive, and a fine example of what American pinot noir can be.

2011 Soter North Valley Pinot Noir ($34.99)

  • “Soter’s 2011 Pinot Noir North Valley brilliantly showcases its vintage’s virtues, as well as confirms his and Cahill’s belief in its superiority to 2010. A silken texture is allied to animation, brightness and refreshment; sweetly ripe though tart-edged and piquantly pit-inflected fresh red berry fruit is tinged with smoky black tea and pungent green herbs. Somehow, the overall effect is not at all bifurcated or awkwardly edgy but instead reflects productive tension, culminating in a long, buoyant finish at once soothing and stimulating in its burst of berry seed-crunching. I predict that this terrific value will show handsomely through at least 2018.” DS. Wine Advocate – 92 Points!

2006 Cote Bonneville Carriage House ($54.99)

  • Polished, focused and open-textured, letting its pure plum, currant and rose petal flavors emerge easily from the deftly balanced frame, persisting against velvety tannins. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Drink best from now through 2014. Only 1,000 cases made. –HS Wine Spectator – 93 Points!

Saturday, January 25th, 2014 – 4pm – 7pm

Saturday’s Selections: $20.00 per person

Featuring “Wines of Oregon and Washington”

2012 Baron’s De Rothschild Blanc ($17.99)

  • This little Bordeaux Blanc has a great pedigree; it’s made by the Barons de Rothschild Lafite family. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, the nose is fruity and elegant, with white flowers, minerals and citrus fruit. The palate has a good balance between body and liveliness, and a long finish. An easy-drinking, pleasure wine for serving as an aperitif with goat’s milk cheeses or with fine seafood dishes.

2008 Chateau Renard Mondesir ($24.99)

  • A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc the Renard Mondesir is lively, with tobacco and iron notes running through the core of crushed plum and red currant fruit. A dark olive hint marks the finish.  Drink now. 150 cases made. –JM Wine Spectator – 87 Points!

2007 Chateau Pipeau ($29.99)

  • This sexy, seductive 2008 offers abundant notes of Asian plum sauce, blueberries and black currants, a seductive, plush texture, impressive purity and a long, elegant finish. Dark ruby/purple and medium to full-bodied, this wine should be drunk now and over the next 8-10 years.” Robert Parker Wine Advocate – 90 Points!

2010 Chateau Caronne St Gemme ($39.99)

  • This wine is well-structured, with tobacco and cedar framing damson plum, cassis and black cherry fruit. The tobacco edge re-emerges on the finish, with savory and dark olive notes. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit  Merlot. Will drink at it’ best from 2014 through 2024. 20,000 cases made. –JM Wine Spectator 90 Points!  Wine Advocate 90 Points!

2009 Malartic Lagraviere ($89.99)

  • Probably the best wine that has come from this estate, along with their 2005, the final blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot boasts Michel Rolland as the consulting oenologist. This organically farmed vineyard has turned out a deeply layered wine with a striking perfume of graphite, wet stones, red and black currants, tobacco leaf and underbrush. The compelling aromatics are followed by a medium-bodied but intensely concentrated wine with loads of ripe fruit, and a long, nuanced, impressively endowed finish. Accessible already, this wine should continue to drink well for 15 or more years.” Robert Parker Wine Advocate – 92+ Points

Hope to see you all out this weekend!

El Cajon Wine Tasting Selections for 1/24/14-1/25/14

Please stop by and visit us this Friday night or Saturday afternoon in El Cajon and join in tasting an assortment of cabs. It’ll be mostly Cabernet Sauvignon but we snuck in a very nice French-style Cabernet Franc as well. From the breezy Central California Coast to Sonoma, Napa and Washington’s Columbia Valley we’ll sample a variety of quality efforts.

As per our custom we’ll start off with a white to get things rolling, this time an ’11 Hill Family Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay. Paso Robles is making enormous strides in turning out quality wines and a Bianchi ’10 cab will be next before we turn to the north and taste a great value: a ’10 Chateau St. Michelle Columbia Valley Cab.

Turning back to Napa, next up will be an ’05 Beaucanon Cuvee Louis Cabernet Franc, a grape usually used in blending but well constructed here to stand on its own.

An ’07 Athair Sonoma Valley cab that’s an Irish salute to fathers will be next and we’ll wind up with an ’02 Diamond terrace Napa cab from the Diamond Mountain District to add a touch of class.

Please stop by and join in the merriment with your gregarious host, Bill Callahan.

La Jolla Wine Tasting Selections 1/17/14-1/18/14

This Friday I will be celebrating my 3rd annual 39th birthday.  This year it will be with my wine tasting friends here at Jonathan’s Market.  Therefore, on both Friday and Saturday night the theme will be “Jason’s Choice.”

Personally, I like to drink good wines, so I have put together two very solid lineups for your tasting pleasure.  I have stretched the budget for these two for certain, thus it is not a weekend to be missed.  Both evenings culminate with a Napa Cabernet that I adore.  I look forward to seeing many you on Friday, Saturday, or both!

~ Jason Perry

Friday, January 17th, 2014 – 4pm – 7pm

Friday’s Selections: $20.00 per person

Featuring “Jason’s Choice”

2012 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc ($29.99)

  • This is a classic expression of our Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of grapefruit, lemon curd and nectarine, as well as rich, underlying notes of vanilla and homemade marshmallow. A smooth-textured entry gives way to tingling acidity that shows off the citrus elements beautifully, while adding length to flavors of cantaloupe, Asian pear and Fuji apple. The finish is persistent and refreshing with long mineral notes. Wine Spectator 90 Points!

2011 Donum Estate Chardonnay ($54.99)

  • Carneros is renowned for stellar Chardonnay, and these vineyards are a gem. The selection of 100% Old Wente Chardonnay came from the Winery Lake and Larry Hyde vineyards. It’s a charming Chardonnay, yielding a host of aromas of apple, lemon, orange blossom, lime and crème brulee balanced by the minerality provided by our vineyard’s prominent natural acidity.

2008 T-Vine Merlot ($34.99)

  • There are just 420 cases of T-Vine’s Napa Valley Merlot out in the world, and it’s a sad thing, since it’s just the kind of Merlot detractors need to taste to redeem this varietal’s damaged reputation. Made from fruit grown on Calistoga’s Kenefick Ranch, this Merlot is beautiful, with plum and blueberry fruit, saddle leather and spice, all coming together in wonderful, integrated harmony.

2010 Brancaia Ilatraia ($64.99)

  • This is pure and oh-so-silky featuring flavors of black currant, violet, sweet spice, with a hint of tobacco.  The supple texture is offset by refined tannins as this cruises to a long aftertaste of black currant and spice.  Best from 2014-2024.” BS Wine Spectator 94 Points! #86 Top 100 wines of 2010!

2006 Lancaster Cabernet ($69.99)

  • “Revealing a deep ruby purple color, a big intense, masculine mouthfeel and plenty of power and tannin it is a readily accessible wine with good balance, structure and purity.” Robert Parker Wine Advocate 90 Points! Wine Enthusiast 92 Points!

Saturday, January 18th, 2014 – 4pm – 7pm

Saturday’s Selections: $25.00 per person

Featuring “Jason’s Choice Part 2″

2012 Michel Redde Les Tuilieres Sancerre ($31.99)

  • “Pebbly chalk and limestone subsoils in the vineyard along with warm summers result in a wonderfully vibrant, fruity wine. Michel Redde uses temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats to create a pure expression of the Sauvignon Blanc grape, then the wine rests on its lees until bottling. A very approachable, classic Sancerre: zesty with a hint of grass as well as white fruit on the nose. Crisp on the palate, with pronounced but well-balanced acidity.” Wine Spectator 91 Points!

2011 Cote Bonneville Chardonnay ($49.99)

  • “The 2011 Chardonnay is a beauty and up there with the top examples of this variety coming out of Washington today. Barrel-fermented and aged 17 months, on lees, in 50% new French oak, it has a decidedly Old World feel with its rich golden apple, toast, brioche and spice aromas giving way to a medium to full-bodied, balanced and focused effort that builds on the palate and finishes with outstanding clarity and length. Given how the 2007 is currently showing, I’ve no doubt this will age gracefully for over a decade, yet I also see no reason to delay gratification either. Drink now-2020.” Jeb Dunnuck Wine Advocate 93 Points!

2010 Dierberg Drum Canyon Pinot Noir ($44.99)

  • Less voluptuous and more edgy, with crisp black cherry, crushed stone, ground herbs, new leather and pepper, the 2010 Pinot Noir Drum Canyon comes together beautifully on the palate with a chiseled, pure and classically structured mouthfeel. Showing a salty minerality on the finish, this knockout effort needs another year of bottle age and will evolve gracefully through 2020. Drink 2014-2020.

2007 Sebastiani Secolo ($34.99)

  • The 2007 Secolo delivers bold aromas of blackberry, blueberry, sandalwood and dried herbs. The character of the vintage encouraged us to emphasize the elegance of the fruit by using less new oak than in the past. The palate is a ripe, concentrated mélange of black fruits laced with vanilla and hints of mocha. The wine finishes fairly soft with just enough tannins to frame the generous fruit. Wine Spectator 92 Points!

2007 Sherwin Cabernet ($89.99)

  • “The Sherwin Cabernet is a stylish effort, ripe, complex, supple and layered, with a mix of black cherry, wild berry, road tar, graphite and cedar notes. Full-bodied, turning supple and elegant on the finish, where the tannins are ripe and fleshy. Drink now through 2021.” James Laube Wine Spectator 92 Points!

Hope to see you all out this weekend!

El Cajon Wine Tasting Selections 1/17/14-1/18/14

Friday night and Saturday afternoon in El Cajon, we’ll sample some terrific wines we’ve brought in from Argentina and balance that with some Napa gems that will provide a wide variety of tastes for your sampling

We’ll begin with a white from a mile-high vineyard, an Hermanos Torrentes that earned a 90-point rating from Robert Parker followed by a fruity Molnar Family Pinot Noir from Carneros.

Then we’ll turn back to Argentina for more full-bodied wines. The Diamandes Perlita is a sensational buy for under $10, dynamite blend of Malbec and Syrah from Mendoza followed by an always-dependable Catena Malbec, this time the 2010 which won a 91 from Parker.

Next up will be a unique Napa Grenache from T-Vine Cellars, a winery that always promises bold-tasting offerings. We’ll finish up with a 2007 Jaffe Napa Metamorphosis, structured in the traditional Napa style.

Please stop by and join in the merriment with your gregarious host, Bill Callahan.

Featuring “Argentina and more Tasting”

This weekends selections: $15.00

Hermanos Torrentes Valle de Cafayate 2011   ($14.99 During Tasting)

  • “Finca Domingo’s 2011 Torrontes comes from a Cafayate vineyard located at 5500 feet of elevation. Its fragrant tropical fruit aromas set the stage for a dry, medium-bodied, vibrant wine with a lingering, fruit-filled finish.’’  — Wine Advocat. 90 Points – Robert Parker

Molnar Family Pinot Noir    ($25.99 During Tasting)

  • This Carneros juice is loaded with focused, fresh fruit from the initial aroma to the flavors on the palate. What at first seems like a more delicate wine, with overtones of just-picked red plums and cherries filling the glass, turns much broader in the mouth.

Diamandes Perlita Malbec/Syrah 2010   ($8.99 During Tasting)

  • Terrific buy on a tasty, full-bodied blend of 80 percent Malbec and 20 percent Syrah from a French-backed vintner in Argentina’s Mendoza Valley. Great with barbecues.

Catena High Mountain Vines Malbec 2010    ($21.99 During Tasting)

  • Catena wines consistently achieve high ratings and the 2010 Mendoza maintains that tradition. The taste is rich and concentrated, with blueberry and blackberry notes and a touch of leather and cinnamon that finishes with exceptional length. 91 Points – Robert Parker

T-Vine Napa Valley Grenache 2008    ($27.99 During Tasting)

  • The winemaker writes “I like my wines the way I like my families and friends…obnoxiously forward” and this bottle of one of the world’s most planted grapes definitely has its own unique personality and vibrant taste.

Jaffe Metamorphosis Cabernet Sauvignon 2007    ($44.99 During Tasting)

  • A classic Napa Cab with ripe fruit flavors, most prominently Bing cherry and plum. This is a thoroughly contemporary bottling made in a traditional style of balance, elegance, restraint and longevity.

See you all this weekend!

La Jolla Wine Selections: 1/10/14-1/11/14

We had a request for Spanish wines so this Friday that will be our theme of the evening. This is our red wine lovers tasting since it will include just one white wine followed by four red wines.  The reds include wines all ranked 90 or higher in the wine advocate.  The evening culminates with the perennially highly acclaimed “Clio” from Jumilla Spain.  As usual it is a high octane blend of Cabernet and Monastrell. Although this vintage has yet to be rated, Clio has a history of mid ninety point rankings from Robert Parker.

On Saturday we will taste wines of California.  The lineup includes one Chardonnay from Solitude (it is that creamy rich style many of you enjoy) and one Sauvignon Blanc from Tamber Bey Winery.  We also enjoy three “big” California red wines.  When someone says “big red wine,” what do you think of? I tend to think of a flavorful, full-bodied, rich wine with good concentration and balance. Big red wines also tend to be a bit heady (alcoholic), even tannic, but balance is key.  Cabernet is the varietal that comes to mind first, but other varietal, even a Pinot Noir, can be full-bodied. Other grape varieties known for making big red wines include Zinfandel, Nebbiolo, and Petit Syrah and Syrah.

I hope to see you all this weekend.

2009 Bodegas Fernando Ramirez Erre Punto ($29.99)

  • The 2009 Erre Punto contains 70% old-vine Viura and 30% old-vine Malvasia. It is slightly more expressive with a bit more depth, concentration, and complexity.
Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Genuza ranks among the top half-dozen producers in Rioja. Fernando Remirez de Ganuza has been able to accomplish this by melding the best aspects of traditional and contemporary Rioja styles into his own unique expression. White wine is a new addition to the portfolio.” Jay Miller Wine Advocate – 92 Points!

2005 Algueira Riberia Sacra ($29.99)

  • Medium to dark ruby-colored, it offers Pinot Noir-like aromatics with pleanty of spicy red fruits and a touch of oak.  This leads to an elegant wine with incipient complexity, a silky texture sweet red berry flavors, and good length.  The wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 6 years (02/08) Robert Parker Wine Advocate 90 Points!

2005 Martinet Bru Priorat ($39.99)

  • “The 2005 Martinet Bru is purple-colored with an excellent nose of cedar, smoke, mineral, black cherry, and black currant. Structured, with enough tannin for 5-7 years of further evolution, this intense, lengthy wine will require considerable patience. The 2005 will drink best from 2008 -2015.” Jay Miller Wine Advocate 91+ Points

2006 Sierra Cantabria Collecion Privada ($39.99)

  • “The 2006 Collecion Privada was sourced from some of the estate’s oldest Tempranillo vines. Malolactic fermentation was in barrel and the wine was aged for 18 months in new French and American oak. It gives up an alluring bouquet of pain grille, liquid mineral, lavender, incense, and blackberry. On the palate it is layered, medium to full-bodied, ripe, and complex. Give this lengthy effort 3-4 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2013 to 2026.” Jay Miller Wine Advocate 92 Points!

2011 Clio Cuvee ($49.99)

  • One of the most desired wines in the world perennially is Bodegas El Nido’s Clio.  For eight straight years this gorgeous, fruit-driven wine has averaged 95 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. With the 2011 vintage set to arrive, one thing is for sure, the quality of the overall vintage in Spain (and for Western Europe for that matter) in 2011 was excellent to say the least with some properties proclaiming they have produced their finest wines in a generation – 2011 is turning out to be the finest vintage ever for the appellation of Jumilla.

Saturday, January 11th, 2014 – 4pm – 7pm

Saturday’s Selections: $25.00 per person

Featuring Wines of California

2010 Solitude Chardonnay ($27.99)

  • Solitude Chardonnay is barrel fermented in French oak, utilizing Burgundian yeast strains. Malo-lactic fermentation, yeast contact, and stirring occur during the seven months of oak aging. Traditional Burgundian techniques combined with California cellar practices produces the ultra premium Chardonnay that is consistently marked with high quality and value.

2012 Tamber Bey Sauvignon Blanc ($29.99)

  • New to the Tamber Bey portfolio is our Sauvignon Blanc from the Tench Vineyard in Oakville. Winemaker Frederic Delivert developed a unique aging program for this wine, aging 60% of the wine for six months in both Oak and Acacia wood barrels and the other 40% in stainless steel. Blending both lots together has created a complex and fresh wine that is delightfully balanced.

2008 Star Angel Red ($39.99)

  • Marked by complex flavors built around rich mineral, graphite, dried berry, sage and cedar notes that are slow to unfold but offer wonderful depth, focus and length as they do. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2022. 3,000 cases made. –JL Wine Spectator 92 Points

2009 Leviathan Red ($49.99)

  • A tight, young and vibrant red, with a pure, focused core of dried berry, currant and dill, expanding and gliding through the finish, where touches of dried herb and cedar reverberate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2023. 6,700 cases made. –JL Wine Advocate 91 Points

2010 Snowden Cabernet ($49.99)

  • Snowden’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch is one of the bigger, juicier wines readers will come across in this vintage. Mocha, chocolate, spices, plums and black cherries seem to literally jump from the glass. Merlot plays a pretty important role in the 2010, which gives the wine much of its roundness and early accessibility. Round, expressive and racy, the 2010 Ranch is a terrific effort from Snowden. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Wine Advocate 92 Points!

Hope to see you all out this weekend!

2009 Vina Real Crianza ($19.99)

  • Another sensational value is the 2009 Rioja Vina Real Crianza. Made from 90% Tempranillo blended with other authorized varietals, this effort comes from vineyards in the foothills of Sierra Cantabria. Exceptionally ripe with a dark ruby/purple color, excellent texture, and outstanding concentration, length and equilibrium, this is one of the finest value-priced Riojas in the marketplace. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years.” R. Parker – Wine Advocate 91 Points!

2010 Post Scriptum Douro ($26.99)

  • Intense colour with hints of violet on the rim. Bouquet of black cherry and cassis with well integrated wood. Very soft tannins on the front of palate, developing into a soft structure with plenty of freshness on the finish. “Ripe and complex, this has big, spicy fruit that rises above the tannins to give a sweet, full mouthfeel. Below the fruit, the dry tannins and wood aging promise the aging potential of three years.” Wine Enthusiast 90 Points!

2005 Martinet Bru Priorat ($39.99)

  • “The 2005 Martinet Bru is purple-colored with an excellent nose of cedar, smoke, mineral, black cherry, and black currant. Structured, with enough tannin for 5-7 years of further evolution, this intense, lengthy wine will require considerable patience.” J. Miller Wine Advocate 91 Points!

2009 Pratz & Symington Chryseia Douro ($54.99)

  • The 2009 “CHRYSEIA” is 70% Touriga Nacional and 30% Touriga Franca, aged for 13 months in new oak. From a small, dry, hot vintage, this needed a little time to show better. It is beginning to strut its stuff now and starting to fulfill the promise I thought it had. The oak has started to integrate much better. While it retains its intensity of flavor and is hardly for the shy, it has begun to show a bit more class and integration, not just flamboyance and sex appeal. Showing just hints of complexity now, it certainly will reward more time in the cellar. It is a big, big Chryseia, but it showed well in Portugal this last summer and again when retasted in the USA very recently. At the moment, I would still give the nod to the more evolved and expressive 2007, but this certainly has the potential to be the best Chryseia ever. Drink 2014-2024.” Mark Squires Wine Advocate 94 Points!

2006 Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro ($44.99)

  • The 2006 seems a little more focused, a little smaller scaled on opening than the sexy ’05 or the powerful ’04 and ’03. That said, this is a big success in the vintage, and a candidate for wine of the vintage. It has surprisingly good structure and intensity, delicious fruit and a pretty respectable finish for a 2006. This has come along beautifully since I first saw it at the winery. It will be approachable early, but a couple of years in the cellar would help. Drink 2010-2019.” Mark Squires Wine Advocate 92 Points!

Henriot NV Blanc De Blancs ($54.99)

  • The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is a beautifully balanced, harmonious wine. There is just enough roundness and generosity to balance the focus of the Chardonnay in this accessible, harmonious Champagne. Hints of butter, smoke and spices wrap around the generous finish. This is Lot L1107221010. Disgorged October 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 91 Points! Wine Spectator 92 Points!

Marion Bosser Premier Cru Brut ($49.99)

  • Marion Bosser is s small Champagne house that has been family owned since 1891. Mother-daughter team Bernadette and Elodie perpetuate the family tradition making high-quality Champagne in their native village of Hautvillers, the village where Dom Perignon dedicated his life to Champagne. The Chardonnay they use is sourced from Premier and Grand cru classified villages within the Cote de Blancs, famous for quality. Offers complex aromas of apple, lemon, red fruit, biscuits, chalk, yeast and toast. It is crisp, fresh and balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a moderately long finish. A mere 66 cases produced.

Charles Mignon Rose Grand Cru ($69.99)

  • The Cuvee Comte de Marne Rose champagne is composed of 55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay and to which 10 to 15% of Bouzy Rouge is added. This champagne is made using the finest grapes, Grand Cru, and is aged in cellar for four to five years.  Comte de Marne Rose is and beautiful orange, grey, rose colour finished with a genlty mousse and small gentle bubbles. Floral notes on the nose and a sublte rose fragrance. On the palate there are light spices with hazelnuts and apricots.

Hope to see you all out this weekend!

El Cajon Wine Selections: 12/27/13-12/28/13

This weekend we’ll get ready to toast the year of 2013, as it comes to a close, and the year 2014’s arrival. We’ll explore the many choices one faces when looking for bubbles to share at New Year celebrations.

We’ll begin with a Spanish Cava and an Italian Prosecco, then move on to Taittinger’s California sparkler, Domaine Carneros. Then we’ll taste a French Premier Cru Champagne from Marion-Bosser, and end with a deliciously sweet Brachetto from Italy.

Should be great fun!  Hope you can join us.
