Wine Tasting Notes El Cajon 11/21/14-11/22/14

This week’s tasting focuses on the wines of noted winemaker Sal Galvan, who earned his stripes at Pine Ridge and Robert Mondavi before striking out on his own with his Solano County winery as well as serving as winemaker for Press Cellars, Harvest Ranch Cellars and Chateau Potelle.

Galvan fell in love with Solano County’s Green Valley AVA and expanded Galvan Family Cellars to a 3,500 case production, working closely with vineyards in Green Valley, Suisun Valley and Napa.

We’ll open with a creamy Sauvignon Blanc before moving to the reds, including a Thanksgiving-friendly Gamay Noir, a Harvest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon and a fruit-forward Zinfandel-based blend before wrapping up with a sinful late-harvest Dolcetto.

Please join your fellow tasters and host Bill Callahan, who will provide a tasty spread of cheeses, crackers and meats to accompany these fine wines.

El Cajon Wine Tasting Notes 11/7/14-11/8/14

The Holiday Head-Start Tasting

Here at Harvest Ranch we listen to voices of our valued customers and recently you’ve been suggesting that we allow you to sample more of the upscale pricier wines that we feature on the shelves of our wine department. We hear you!

However, in order to pour these wines and sell them at discounted prices we’re going to have to absorb increased costs so the price of the tastings will increase slightly to $20, which we think you will agree will still be a bargain given the fine wines, cheeses, meats and fruits that are part of these tastings.

This week’s wines were selected to serve as welcome holiday gifts or perfect fits to your Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners and parties during the holiday season.

An elegant French Chardonnay and Bordeaux, two Spanish red blends and a fantastic Chilean Carmenere will be featured this weekend. Several of these wines received 90-plus ratings from critics. Please come join us this weekend.
